The rich heritage of Sacred Heart Church is deeply rooted in the settlement of Southwest Idaho and traces back to 1875 when the first regular services were held by Father Alex J. Archambault who traveled from Idaho City. The first church building was located at 211 West 2nd Street and dedicated in 1890 under the patronage of St. Anthony. In 1916, a rectory was also built. Father Michael Keyes came to Emmett in 1927 as the first resident pastor. Under his direction, the former site of the church and the rectory were sold for $1,000 and eight lots were purchased on the corner of 1st and Hayes. A new church was built for $9,286 and dedicated under the patronage of Sacred Heart by Bishop Kelly in 1928. In 1958 the hall was built under the direction of Father Mercwyn Nuxoll. Later, in 1977, Father W. Thomas Faucher directed a $124,000 building project connecting the hall to the church. Remembering the past parishioners of Sacred Heart and their sacrifices to leave to us a sound and beautiful church, the Parish & Finance Council members elected to move forward with the restoration and improvements to our church. Planning for those in our own future, under the guidance of Father Oscar Jaramillo, restoration of the sanctuary part of our church began in 2009. We now have the addition of the crucifix, donated by Phil & Renee Housley in memory of their parents, Charles and Vivian Housley; Ralph and Yvonne Tarrant; the beautiful triptych, painted by Cindi Duft, inspirational stained glass windows donated in the memory of John and Dorothy Beitia, Asher J. Meyers, Sandra Schneider, Delbert and Evelyn Crank, Edward, Cecilia and Michael Ravizza, Yeaw and Baltazor family members and the Hispanic community, new furniture made by Roger Nebeker and a new sound system. This is the building that stands today and is listed on the National Register of Historic Places. From this rich heritage Sacred Heart Parish of Emmett joins together to:
- Worship God by experiencing Christ as the transforming and comforting Healer of all people and by helping Christ in the healing of one another in community.
- Share the Gospel and its values with each other and with our neighbors.
- Serve our community in response to people's most pressing needs.
